He DISSED the Tribe… SO WHAT?

Lupe Fiasco forgot words to a Tribe song on stage and people started tearing him down. But you know what? The dude can spit better then 90% of the rappers out so, who cares if he forgot a couple lines to one of the most classic hip-hop songs in history. And it happened to be a tribute to the one of the greatest groups in music. I’m a Tribe fan, but you know what? I forget them shits too, so I sing REALLY loud when I know the part, and then, I kind of MUMBLE the rest that I don’t know till the hook comes in. Y’all do it too. Check out my dawg Lupe at some University kickin it str8 acapella steeze.

RUN DMC & JAM MASTER JAY

Oct 31, 2007

I know I slacked yesterday on my FALLEN SOLDIERS promo run, my deepest apologies to everyone keeping track. I also want to note that the B-Syde video is dope so y’all make sure and watch that. Now back to the lecture at hand… Today marks the 5 year anniversary of the tragic death of JMJ. Jam Master Jay is probably one of hip-hops most important figures, he introduced us to the no shoes in the Adidas (style), he has inspired cuts from premo, and he took a kid from Queens and showed him how to rap (50 Cent). I would post the ground breaking “Walk This Way” video but nah, I like this song better. Check it out and keep supporting the Calendar.

ODB is Mr. November

It’s Friday and I’m feeling great plus, who doesn’t like Friday’s? It being Friday and all, I thought I would let ODB set it off as only ODB can. Ol Dirty Bastard was a staple of the Wu-Tang Clan (which I might add, have an album coming out in December) he had a one of a kind personality and his style of rhyme was well… Father-less. I will never forget the time he ran up and showed his ass at the Grammy’s in defense of what was real Hip-Hop. He pulled a Kanye way before Jesus walks. I thought this clip of Meth and the crowd was a direct representation of what ODB’s legacy should be. A social gathering, plenty of alcohol and a group of people rhyming word for word the first verse to shimmy shimmy ya. RIP to the big baby Jesus, Ol’ Dirty. Fallen Soldiers Mr. November.

MUCH RESPECT TO J-DILLA!

One of the greatest hip hop producers of all time had to be honored in this Fallen Soldiers Calendar. He was put in the month of January because this was the first actual illustration done. It kind of got this whole ball rolling and idea started. I choose this video because one, I didn’t know they even made a video to this song. Two, the motion graphics aint that bad and three, the beat is crazy. Then again, most Dilla beats are. RIP JD

Premo said it best “BIG L REST IN PEACE!”

Big L has to be the best rhyme spit’a of All-Time. Honestly, I don’t think ANYONE can name a better lyrist out. He never got the shine he deserved, but still demanded the respect of all his peers. Eminem said “if you take some Big and some Pac / tie’em up in a knot / sprinkle a lil Big L on top / what the fuck do you got?”… Y’all know the rest; don’t act like it’s just me. Big L was the TRUTH, just like the Fallen Soldiers Calendar that we happen to pay tribute to him in (you knew it was coming). Yes, Its day two of what I like to call the “Remembrance”. Here is a (ol’ skool slang starts now) “dope” freestyle he kicked on the radio, that dude can flow fo real (not like for real but, ms. Jackson fo’reeeaall!). “Big L (“BIG L!), Big L Rest In Peace! Shout out to youtube and of course www.stablabs.com/fallensoldiers.

Tupac Represents!!!

There was a small debate about who should be on the cover of the Fallen Soldiers Calendar. But as the Hennessey from the night before started to come back to me, we found no better representation of what a true Fallen Soldier was than Mr. Tupac himself.
I thought I would leave this music video not just to kick off this weeks promotion of the greatest hip-hop calendar of all time, but to remember all that were lost in this game called life. RIP Tupac, as we all have shed so many tears.
