The homie Justin Blyth is back with an all new INSPIRATIONAL blog. Them-Thangs.com
Hah!… i found ‘em! Knew they were in there somewhere… These are the pics of the lab @ Connoisseur 533. Man I miss that place. Seems like the Stab Labs Blog is a place to reminisce about the journey. This was a great jump off. At night it was super peaceful.. well actually…not until the after party stumbled in from night life, and weed smoke dispersed … then it was peaceful.

In fall 2008, I left San Jose in pursuit of a new full-time job, and found my way, living with 3 roommates in the Mission District. It was my first time officially out ma’s house, and though I had originally had plans to make it out to LA, to pursue the entertainment industry, I ended up in San Francisco with a steady enough gig ,to hold down my fam in SJ, and still stay afloat out here. The place was dope, the hood was dope, roommates dope, rooftop parties were dope… man… it was just…DOPE!
It’s been a little over a year there now, and throughout that time, I was able to bang out the I Wonder Video, Music Machine, Unoriginal/Original video, and a gang of other projects… I’ve realized that having a good/clean studio setup, is essential in creating solid work. My own personal belief is, if you’re messy on the outside, you’re messy on the inside. So I try to keep my studio as solid as possible. It’s a reflection on how organized I am in my mind, and it allows me to stay focused when things are in order.
So now… we’re heading into the 2nd month of 2010, and that first quarter is creepin’ up quick! Though sad, I’m proud to say that I’ll be moving on, from this location, into a new studio in. I’m still in San Francisco, but this time with a bit of an upgrade…..

Back in say…. 2006? I was slangin’ out of the illest boutique in SJ, called Connoisseur 533… Marcus R and the 533 fam took me in, and they let me run loose in their shop. Literally. I was like a kid in a candy store. It was located in a pimp loft in Downtown San Jose, on Market street, just a block away from nightlife. I was surrounded by fresh gear, hustlers, party goers, scene-sters, hipsters, ladies, homies, money, the dream, and the work ethic. I gotta admit, it was quite the stunt at the time, since downstairs was the street wear boutique, and upstairs was the current of home of Stab Labs.
As I worked upstairs, it was fresh hearin the footsteps of customers, neighbors and folks come in… Occasionally, I’d hear from below, “Is Ra here?” Marcus or Kareem would let em know i was upstairs… That always put a smile on my face… It was always different at that joint.. Lot of folks trying to network, and make moves. This is actually where Don P and I got our start, working together and dreaming once the shop was closed. We’d meet weekly, and just stay motivated. I wish i had pics right now.. I’d put em up…
Anyway, long story short, and with the impact of the recession, the shop isn’t around anymore. It’s unfortunate that story came to an end, but the folks behind it, like Marcus, have bigger dreams.
It’s always good catchin up with Marcus.. Day in and day out, I seen this dood WORK. Period. He absolutely knew how to get it in, and I knew that we’d eventually link up and work on something collaboratively one day. We got to catch up the other night, and it’s the same where we left off, even if it was months ‘n months ago. He’s got some plans, and a fresh concept, that I can’t reveal just yet…. but it’ll definitely make its way here.
To the 533 fam, thanks for taking me in and lettin me be me in that joint. Respect.!

Artist Statement:
Regardless of religion, spiritual stand point or belief, we can all agree that we are only on this Earth for a short moment in time. Everything around us is temporary and life is what we make of it. Even the most horrible situations breathe new life and change into our existence. And, most importantly, our perception is our reality.
With this understanding, I remain positive during the most difficult trials as I know they are here not by coincidence, but for a purpose, and that one day they will pass.
Society has exploded into what it is today, leaving behind a wake of destruction. What began as the “American Dream” is now a place where the selfish and greedy thrive on the backs of the working class poor. All too often, the wrong people are in charge and, with mega-corporations more powerful than governments, the world has made a turn for the worse.
However the Internet, one of the few forms of free press left, has allowed us to do our own research on the so-called “powers that be” and spark communication with people from all backgrounds through an open forum, revealing similar stories and an awareness that this problem exists all over the world.
Today, one by one, people are refusing to keep control in the hands of the evil few and are empowering themselves by becoming part of the innovative and self-sustaining community we were meant to be. There is a shift occurring, and it is up to us to bring the power back to the people.
“The Last Shall Be First” is a statement regarding the largest group of people, who are on the bottom and fighting for survival but deserve more. It also refers to the origin of my artwork, because everything created for this show was made from the waste of others. As well it is the positive affirmation I most often find myself repeating when the troubles of the world seem far beyond my capacity.
